11/24/2008 - Altrusa International, Inc. of Borger, TX recently bought books for clients at the Borger Satellite WorkshopFrom left to right, Altrusans making the presentation were Jana Pronger, Carol Ann Herbst, Jerrie Judd, Elene Chisum, Wanda Guinn, Marilyn Brown, and June Voigt. 11/17/2008 - The Borger, Texas Altrusans furnished all 5th grade students in Hutchinson County a personal dictionary. Helping distribute the dictionaries are club members left to right: Jerrie Judd, Elene Chisum, Cindy Head (teacher), Marilyn Brown and Mary Lou Earnest.

11/17/2008 - Altrusa International, Inc. of Spartanburg, South Carolina had a wonderful day when Dr. Jim Rex (far right), the South Carolina State Superintendent of Education, came to Spartanburg to celebrate the awarding of the Eula Sherman Scholarships to four non-traditional students. The scholarships are awarded from an endowment in honor of the late Eula Sherman, a long-time Altrusa member, who was active in community and educational activities.

8/18/2008 - Altrusa International Inc. of Arcadia, California has made a five-year commitment to sponsoring a young girl in a Christian orphanage, The Shepherd's Home, in Nairobi, Kenya. All the children at the orphanage have lost their parents to HIV-Aids but all the children are HIV negative. The Club's project began in 2007 and has grown to include silent auctions to raise dollars in general support of the school.

At
the July 2001, International Board of Directors meeting, Literacy was
adopted as the charitable focus of Altrusa International. If your club
is already doing a literacy project send an e-mail to literacy@altrusa.com
and tell us about your project. We will post a summary of your
project (send pictures please!) in our new Literacy sections, which
will be open shortly.
